Earth's Loss is Heaven's Great Gain

This morning a little after 2:00 a.m. my friend Linda Scantlin went home to be with our Maker. She handled the cancer that ravaged her lungs with grace and dignity and she was an inspiration to all who knew her.

I have been blessed to call her my friend on this earth and it will be an honour to call her my sister when I reach Heaven someday.

My prayers go out to her husband Glenn, her sons and daughter, their spouses and the grandchildren. I also pray for her brother and sister and their families as well as her close friends and church family.

Her arrangements are being handled by Chapmans Funeral Home in Winfield.

Her visitation will be from 6-8 Tuesday evening at the Funeral Home.

Her funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Elizabeth Baptist Church. The Rev. Jeff Arthur will be officiating.

You can leave your condolences online on the funeral home website at :

Whew!!!

Whew! Its been very busy in the shop lately! Seems like lots of my customers love Fall as much as I do! I keep stocking and ordering and they keep buying...and I keep stocking and ordering...and they...well you get the idea! I have been a busy little bee lately!

We have some nice new consigned hand painted items from Tina for Fall! They are going like hotcakes! Tammy brought us some sweet pumpkins and a witch and scarecrow doll that are awesome too! Terry made us a new bench that he brought in at close on Friday and it sold Saturday morning! Tony brought in some adorable doll pews * mini ladders made from recyled fence rails!Amazing! Ron will be bringing in new items on Tuesday also! Busy busy busy!!!

We found some new vintage treasures that should be in the shop early next week. They wont be there long Im sure!

We had a winner in the gift certificate drawing Betty Bowers. The next winner will be announced this next Saturday!

On a personal note-

I go back for a followup to the orthopedic surgeon Monday morning and I just want to say thanks to all who called, sent cards, emailed or said a prayer for my healing! I am back on both feet now, back in the garden and healing more everyday! Thank you all!

We are now selling JL Toney Benefit Dinner tickets in the shop! So please stop in a buy a bunch to support this fine man and his family as they battle mesothelioma.

Also I have a prayer request for a dear friend Tish Fenton who resides in California. Her parents are Bill & Pat Fenton of Eleanor. Tish had to have a tracheotomy this week due to scar tissue closing off her wind pipe. Although Tish is a strong young woman this will be a long process to heal from. She will have a stint put in also to slow the scar tissue and it will have to remain in place for 3- 6 mths. She wont be able to have speech therapy until the stint is removed. And she will be on disability for at least a year to recover from this.

Tish is currently in the Long Beach Memorial Medical Center in California but they hope she will be able to go home next week. If you would like to send her a card leave me a comment with your email address and I will gladly share it with you.

Have a great week and hope to see you soon!

Artful Pendants and Much Much More

The Artful Pendants that Tina Lawver is creating have arrived at the store! I have a limited number available and they are first come first serve until Tina can get some more created! They are awesome and all are totally unique! Tina is selling them on the internet so fast she could hardly keep up with the demand! They would make wonderful gifts for a special someone! You can check some more of them out at http://theartfullife-tina.blogspot.com. Tina will make special ones with your loved ones pictures or other themes on them also.

I took some pictures of some unique prim and country pieces of furniture on my trip to Amish country recently and I am happy to say two of my local artisans have recreated some of them for the shop! I have three peices ready to put out in inventory tomorrow and more peices will be ready by weeks end! I have had several comments on them already while we were prepping them and they are very positive! These peices are also available on a limited basis so stop in soon!

On a personal note I would like to invite you all to stop by the Buffalo High School Softball Complex on August 23rd between 5-9 to take part in a benefit dinner for JL Toney. The dinner costs $5.00 per person and this includes 2 hotdogs, baked beans, macaroni salad and a drink. The dinner will be just a part of the activities going on that day at the complex. There is also a car show sponsored by the Buffalo High Softball Team. Come out and support the Toney family and our school! You will be glad you did! Tickets for the dinner are available at Unique Designs Beauty Shop in Eleanor now!

The shop is now jam packed with Fall merchandise as well as a lot of quality consigned peices received this week from local artisans! Bring a friend and stop in soon before all the special goodies are gone!

Take care and see you soon!

I Cant Beleive I Ate...Amish Country

Wow! I want to say I just came back from my first trip to Amish Country in Ohio and I don't believe I have ever eaten as much or enjoyed food as much in my life! I am quite certain if I lived there I would be one gigantic roly poly Stay Puff Marshmallow Woman in a very short while! ;)

My sis, her best friend Lisa and I all left on Saturday evening after the shop closed and headed to Walnut Creek, Ohio. We stayed in the Butlers Quarters, nice accommodations in someones home and we stayed until Monday night late!

We hit the antique malls and such on Sunday and drove along all the outlying areas where the Amish people really lived and I loved it. Their farms and homes are so spotlessly clean and well kept and the flowers and vegetable gardens in their yards are absolutely beautiful. Its so much fun to see all the little children playing and all the horse drawn buggies everywhere. It makes you wish for a simpler life too.
On Monday early we spent time in Berlin, Sugar Creek, New Philadelphia and so many other places I cant begin to name them all. We sampled cheese and baked goods and ate at so many yummy restaurants that I was in serious danger of exploding I'm quite sure.We had a ball and got to experience just a fraction of the area, and I cant wait to return!
I did manage to pick up a few unique items for the shop and plan on getting more from some contacts I made there too. Some of the items are already being snatched up and flying out the doors! We crammed the vehicle clear full of purchases and headed home carefully! :)
The shop itself has been very busy with everyone coming in to see all the new Fall merchandise. If you haven't been in lately you are missing it for sure! We have had to reorder a lot of our Fall merchandise again as it is flying out of the store! And our newest consignment items are turning heads also! We received some hand crafted items from Ron yesterday, Tammy today and should receive some from Tina on Friday! Love it love it!
Today was my sister Terry's birthday and we hung banners and balloons all over the store to celebrate with her! We had a ball and the customers who were in today got a kick out of it as well!
Please put Danny Erlewine on your prayer lists. Danny as most of you know is one of the talented artisans that makes furniture for the shop. Danny just recently had a total knee replacement and he is rehabbing and trying to get back on his feet! Pray for his wife Judy to as she helps him heal!
Also I have some unspoken prayer requests for friends with family problems. Please send up a prayer for them, the man upstairs knows the need.
Hope you stop in soon to say hello! Take care!
