Some Silly Snowfolk Arrived Today......

Tina, one of our fav consigners/customers/friends/ love her like a sister was in today!!! And just look what she brought.... Snow Folk!!!!

This neat vintage suitcase below with the snowfolk peeking up from the bottom would make a great storage place for Christmas bulbs!!!!

Isn't this blue child's chair above just adorable??? It has what appears to be its original blue finish that Tina has added the endearing lil snowman on top of....

Just look at this little wooden slatted seat chair below... its little snowfolk looks as if he is wishing on a star...perhaps he is.....

The neat lil primitive pennants below with snowfolk on them are cute. They would be great peeking from the boughs of your primitive Christmas tree...don't you think so too???

This adorable collaged snow folk below is so neat. He is all in earthy muted colors and primmed to the max...what truly primitive holiday decorator wouldn't want him???

Are these guys not the cutest things you ever saw???? Tina's snowfolk are whimsical, dream like, magical folks that you just want to take home so bad!!!!!

They are way cool and most probably wont even last until next weekends Open House!!! If you think they are as sweet as I do hurry in to see them before they disappear...

And check these guys below out..... Terry created these two adorably fun characters in the shop today....
Does anyone else see the resemblance of the big guy to Jimmy Durante or Cyrano Debergerac besides me ???
Maybe we should name him CyraNOSE DeSNOWSerac...or...Jimmy CARROTee???? maybe????
.....oh heck whatever their names they are way to cute to last very long, and one of a kind, you gotta come see them...the lil guy is trying to put the star on top of their Christmas tree and they both are way to cute!!!!

Ahhh Our Wedding Anniversary....

Wow, two years ago today I got married... Doesn't seem like it has been two years, it has flown.... I was just sitting today letting this anniversary percolate in my microscopic brain and I was thinking to myself.....why is our marriage still so new, fresh and fun...like we just met a few days ago??? When around us so many marriages fail???

Well we have to go back a bit to probably understand this fact....we have both been married before and neither had the kind of forever "till death do us part" type of marriage we both longed for... both of us in our heart of hearts wanted someone who "gets us" someone to laugh at our jokes, dry our tears, someone to lean on, and someone to share our life.

After being divorced and on my own 13 years I started a new job and low and behold met this really nice very smart but funny guy there. We became fast friends and stayed this way for a couple of years. Neither pursuing anything more just enjoying this wonderful blossoming friendship and getting to know each other...then somewhere along the way eyes started sparkling and gears started grinding and both of us started to have feelings for each other, more than just friendship... after a few years of friendship we began to date...

I have to say that I truly believe God had a big hand in us finding each other, and that we truly complement each other, filling in the weaknesses and shoring up the strengths. If I had to explain to someone today what makes our marriage work, what do I think keeps it going strong, I would say prayer and laughter and give and take. Those three more than anything else...

So today I say thank you for my wonderful husband Bruce and all the blessings he has brought into my life since we met, and all the blessings yet to come.... and I wish you all as much happiness as we have found with each other!!!

P.S. He took me to dinner tonight, and he made reservations this weekend at one of our fav B & B's Breath of Heaven ..... yep he is romantic and definitely a keeper!

Views from Home

One of our neighbors horses silhouetted by a beautiful sunset....my picture taking ability just doesn't do the colors justice...

This picture of the sunset with the funny "Dragon"shaped cloud shows the planet Jupiter as just a bright speck below the dragon and above the trees... this is the view from my backyard...

This view is from my kitchen door... this deer was one of three including a six point buck that were munching on fallen chestnuts and seemingly disinterested in me...

This pretty lady is Gracie our calico cat. She is my sidekick anytime I'm outside. She looks so neat standing in all the fallen leaves. Its almost like she has her camouflage on...

This is one of my last roses that is currently in bloom now. It is a cross between a pink and a purple in color and the plant towers near my head next to the garage. The smell is heavenly!

Just a few photos to share with you from my home to yours.......

Just Arrived ...Compare and Contrast

In these pictures here and below you will find two different takes on an entryway door bench.

This black one is done in pine in the primitive style, it has a wonderful smooth hand and it features a vintage door, with glass doorknob and hardware, and a shelf at the top and the bottom of the bench.

It arrived in the shop on Saturday handcrafted from Pine Knot Primitives in Hurricane. Dan and Judy don't create these door benches very often and when they bring us one it usually sells pretty fast.

You really need to see and touch this one to fully appreciate it. The finish on it is very very nice.

This entryway door bench is quite different from the other. It is made from very heavy rough lumber and has been whitewashed. It has been inset with three mirrors and the original glass panes have been removed. However, the original knobs, both on the front and the back of the vintage door have been left intact. It has a shelf on the bottom and a bit of a valance on the top.

This door came handcrafted from Ron, one of our local craftsmen in St. Albans.

This is a closeup of the painting and decorating that Terry completed on this bench in house on Saturday after it arrived.

It has a hand rubbed water base finish and should be treated with a coat of poly after purchase to help preserve the finish.

Having both of these pieces arrive at the same time will allow our customers to compare and contrast two different interpretations of the same item.

This will allow them to pick their favorite!

Whats your style????
Which one would work best with your home decor???
Which one speaks to your heart?

I would love to hear your comments on these two items...

My House.....

At the shop when I am providing assistance to a regular or new customer trying to decorate their home and mix in the primitives along with other pieces they love, these or similar questions always come up, "Whats your home like," or "Do you mix primitives with other things at your house or even "Do you decorate like this at home?"

Well I have decided to put those questions to rest with this blog. The images contained below are random photos shot at my home to show how I mix my favorite pieces, either family heirlooms, contemporary items, collectibles, or hand crafted pieces in with my beloved prims. I hope these give you some ideas how to decorate your own home with the things you love too....

This image contains my Hubs grandmothers clock and shelve with my grandmothers Blue Willow china and other family pieces of mine on it. Its surrounded on the wall by two vintage advertisements matted and framed that came from Hubs childhood home.
This little cutie is a vintage grocery store shelf with wannabe vintage labeled cans on it.

This vignette resides on top of my Pennsylvania Dutch Oak Lowboy cabinet. It showcases some of my Cats Meow mini houses, an antique Brownie camera, a lovely Amish couple in a neat lil primmed mini bench, and a beloved Blue Willow coffeepot.

This Oak Lowboy cabinet holds my prized Blue Willow china collection which contains pieces from both my maternal and paternal grandmothers, as well as other family heirlooms. As a young woman I bartered and worked for a Pennsylvania Dutch neighbor for this cabinet and one other oak piece.
This vignette contains a more contemporary matted framed picture I love and primitive candlesticks from my shop.

This photo shows a handcrafted piece made from old ceiling tin and vintage doorknobs with a berry wreath hanging from it and a contemporary framed picture next to it.

In this picture I have used a new piece that was made to look like a primitive piece with all the vintage knobs on it. I have hung a vintage wreath with glass acorns, a primmed hand painted sign and hand dipped tapers from it.

This montage contains several prim style pieces stitched and framed without glass. They are surrounding a hand crafted shelf made from recycled barn wood.

This handcrafted glass front cabinet showcases my vintage pharmaceutical collection.

This small photo shows part of the line up on top of my laundry room cabinets. Its a mix of blue canning jars, baskets and other old and new favorites.

This photo shows a mini line of laundry and seed market sign in the laundry room.

This photo shows that though this area is very utilitarian it doesn't have to be unattractive. Even humble spuds can look good in a hand made pottery bowl.

This hand crafted cabinet showcases some of my mini's "under glass" to limit the necessary dusting! This allows some of my not so country and prim items to coexist with my prims.

Hope this blog gets your creative brain cells a whirling and you find new ways to combine the things you already have and love with new primitive home decor items!

See you soon! TTFN
